What is sheet metal?

Sheet metal is simply metal formed into thin and flat pieces. It is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking and can be cut and bent into a variety of different shapes. Countless everyday objects are constructed with sheet metal. We work with stainless steel, Colorbond, copper, aluminium, black steel and galvanised steel. Depending on the material, thicknesses range from .55mm to 12mm plate.

What metals do you use?

We only use high-quality metals to ensure your custom project is long-lasting and sturdy. We work with metals such as aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel, copper, Colorbond sheeting, Zincalume steel. We strongly support Australian Made Products and all our Colorbond and Zincalume are fully 100% Australian Made.

Should I install my own roof or patio?

While installing your own roof or patio may save you costs in the short-term, it can be very costly in the long-run if you have made any mistakes during the installation. Unless you are experienced and truly know what you’re doing, Action suggests using a licensed tradesperson. This is the safer option because in the event of a dodgy installation, their insurance will cover the costs rather than you having to dip into your pocket. And, what’s more, if you’re struggling to find a local contractor that you can count on, we can refer you to one of our most trusted and long-time contacts.

How long does it take to organise a patio?

From placement of order, the lead time is around one week and many tradesmen can have 60 square metres covered in just 2-3 days, ready to enclose if required.

How long does Colorbond last?

For COLORBOND® steel, BlueScope Steel offers a warranty against corrosion to perforation by weathering in the natural elements for a period of up to 36 years from the date of installation. BlueScope Steel also warrants that the paint system on COLORBOND® steel will not flake or peel due to natural weathering for a period of up to 20 years from the date of installation.

What sort of fasteners should I use?

If you have decided to DIY, it is imperative that you use quality fasteners as there have been many serious cases of screw failures. We recommend using Buildex Class 4 or Class 5 roofing screws that are proven and superior fasteners that we ourselves have used for many years. Going with a cheaper option really isn’t worth the risk you take for your family, or your business and clients. Read more here http://bit.ly/14IKD2c

Do I need Council approval when changing a tile roof to metal?

Yes. It’s always best to check with your local council first. Most times Council approval is required for Planning and Building consent. Because the weight is reduced by around 90% with metal roofing, there are a few things that need to be satisfied to ensure the new roof complies with the Building Code. The roof timber members must also be tied down to the walls, not all tiled roofs have this done, but it is critical when installing a new metal roof. At Advanced Roof Systems, we take care of the entire process from drafting the site plans to scale, providing al the engineering and lodging the application wit Council.
